Ariel [6 Images]

This is our one and only Berner. She came to us from Adesa Bernese in Ohio which is Owned and Operated by Bobbi Kinley-Blewitt and her husband, Bill. After an 8 year hiatus from the dog show world to have a baby, recover and raise him up,my older son, Michael, and I decided to go to the Greenville Show to see what was up in the collie world and determine where we were going to start looking for our next show prospect. We were looking for Collies but unfortunately we didn't find any to our liking so we walked around and talked to some of our old friends. We stayed to watch Groups and Brandy asked us to stand with her and clap for the Sammy in the working group. While watching the working group, my son pointed and said "There it is! That's what I want to show. I didn't even know what breed it was and had to ask Brandy. She said it was a Bernese Mountain Dog. I told my son if he was sure that after groups we would go and hunt the lady down and inquire about these Bernese Mountain Dogs. Come to find out, the Berner he was pointing at was none other than Charzard. Which made my 7 year old, Pokemon crazy son, at home very happy. We had a long talk with Bobbi and then we went back to Florence where I ordered every book on Bernese Mountain Dogs I could find. Before I knew it, we had Ariel. I have to say that Berners have a very distinct personality and as I have my office at home, Ariel and I bonded right away. I spoiled her rotten and she remains that way still. She is a clown. One of the funniest dogs I have ever come across in my lifetime. She gets into the darndest things but she never fails to put a smile on your face. She is inordinately intelligent and learns very, very quickly. Even things you don't want her to know. Like how to open the doors to go outside at her leisure. She's a real card and has not only won our hearts but the hearts of our neighbors too.

Bitsy [5 Images]

Bitsy was one of the two pups that lived out of Scarlett's test litter. I knew from the moment Bitsy was born that she wouldn't be in this world long but the two years that she was here, she loved every minute of it. She was sick alot but she fought it. I loved her and she loved me. I got up every morning just to see if she was OK. She was the first thing I did each morning and the last thing I did each night. I can honestly attest that DM is a horrible thing and that all of us Collie people should be doing everything we can to stamp it out not hiding and pretending we aren't responsible. Bitsy gave her life to prove a point. Never let Bitsy's life be for nothing. Admit flaws in your breeding program, tell everyone, tell the world. Work together to make our breed a better breed. That's suppose to be why we do this.

Buttercup [9 Images]

This Powerpuff Girl comes to us from California and the great kennel of Jackie Young-Barikhan. Buttercup is a whitefactored, trifactored sable smooth that is going to knock the south out!!! We are so pleased to be able to have this fabulous little bitch here at Carolina. She is the very definition of elegant and movement personified. Look for her late spring/ early summer in a specialty ring near you!

Cosby [8 Images]

Cosby had to be the dog that was loved by all. Everyone went gaga over this guy. I traded my services for him and when I went to get him, I found out the person who owned him actually owed $500 on him so I paid that too. He was worth it. He was suppose to be my son Michael's Jr's dog but Michael showed in Jrs like once or twice and quit so he became the dog who tried to become a carpet. Cosby had all his singles and 1 major when he died of cancer at Kasey's. She kept him after I had Max and loved him until he went to the bridge. I know he went with a smile on his face as he loved everyone and he never complained. Kasey's sister, Tabitha, showed Cosby in Jr's much more successfully than I ever got my son to.

Katie [5 Images]

This has to be the most beautiful blue merle smooth collie pup ever born!!! I loved this girl. I can honestly and without a doubt tell you that this was my all time favorite collie I have ever owned. I got this fabulous pup from Maureen Camilli of Call-Me Collies. Not only is Maureen a great person but she has the most beautiful dogs! This little girl only produced the one litter but she was my soul mate. She ran the kennel and she didn't put up with any funny business from anyone. When she pyo'd and had to be spayed, it was the saddest day. Something went wrong in the surgery and Katie leaked urine from that day onward. My husband wouldn't let her in the house anymore and eventually she had to be placed in a pet home as Katie refused to be a kennel dog. I can honestly say that I have never cried so hard in all my life as when I explained to her why I was taking her away and that we would never see each other again. I have never had another dog like Katie and I doubt I ever will. But one day I know I will see her again waiting for me at the end of the Rainbow Bridge with Bitsy.

Kitty [10 Images]

Kitty was my first homebred champion smooth collie. I couldn't have done it without Myrtle Willis. To whom I owe more thanks than I could ever express. She planned Katie's breeding and showed Kitty to her Championship. Kitty lived with me for a long time even though we never quite saw eye to eye. After causing the death of Chipper in the summer of 1997, she returned to GoldenBrier and lived out the rest of her days with Myrtle. I never kept one of her pups. Sometimes I regret that as I loved her mother, Katie.

Madalyn [6 Images]

Carolina's Back in Black - At long last, I thought. My tri bitch. Little did I know the mastermind to all doggie crimes had just been born. Not only did she decide she wasn't a show dog, she waited until the Gingerbread house was put together and then instructed Spotty how to get it down from the table and then they ATE THE WHOLE THING! (and later returned it)

Oxford [6 Images]

This was a dog that taught me alot of lessons. I bought him as a show prospect but he should have been a rescue dog. He was scared of his shadow and terrified of men. He once jumped out of the second story window of our house because he saw my husband. It took alot of time and patience to bring him around to the point where (yes it's true) I actually did show him. He wasn't really show quality but he was big and blue. I am sure that alot of you will remember that this was the biggest, goofiest blue merle rough you ever saw. We actually did carting with him a couple of times.

Phantom [22 Images]

We were very lucky to get Phantom from Duncan and Libby Beiler. All 13 puppies in the litter were spoken for when I phoned to see if they knew of anyone having a litter that went back to our old stuff. Fortunately for me, someone didn't get a pup at the last minute and I was able to get my little man. Max named him after the cartoon Danny Phantom. It fit in with our Berner who was named after Ariel the Mermaid. Phantom is a real gentleman. He is very sweet and gentle. My youngest son, Max, hopes he will one day show Phantom in Jrs. Foof, as he is affectionately known here in the house, has just started his show career going out with Jane Hammett while Brandy takes a hiatus to breed her Sammy bitch, Clover.

Rebecca [5 Images]

Rebecca was a southern lady. She liked to lie about and look pretty. Anything else just wasn't her style. She hated showing, it was work. She had to lie down in the ring. She ran away when she had puppies. Maternity wasn't her thing either. She didn't play games like the other dogs but she did love to lie in the mud. That was the one secret she hid from the world.

Rebel [3 Images]

This is a pup that not too many of you, even my friends will remember but someone out there remembers very well. This was my powderpuff puppy from my Notorious litter. He was stolen from me while I was in Niagara Falls for the Nationals. Try as I did, I never found him.

Scarlett [4 Images]

Scarlett wasn't technically my dog but it felt like she was. She belonged to my friend, Vicki Fields. I showed Scarlett and I whelped Scarlett's one and only litter as she had DM and we test bred her to prove it was hereditary. Scarlett was a happy go lucky kind of girl and we had a lot of fun together. I still remember her fondly and I wish I had kept some of our show photos together as memorabilia.

Sky [3 Images]

Sky was my first smooth and my first champion. She taught me how to show and gave me the confidence to go in the ring. She didn't need me at the end of the lead, I needed her. And to Joy Carpenter where ever you are- A million thank yous. We never got AKC on our side but I still had Sky for 7 wonderful years thanks only to you.

Spotty [6 Images]

Carolina's On The Spot - My Notorious son that did want to show and was capable of winning, well kinda. Spotty was a very striking sable rough with a white bib and a white spot on the back of his neck (no white collar and not too much in the brains department). When he was born I said I was going to call him Spot as that was all he had amongst all that sable and my husband said I couldn't. Not a good thing to tell me if you really don't want me to do that. Spotty could move like the wind, like sand thru your hands, like silk but he couldn't be quiet ringside. As soon as he saw that ring, he began to bark, nothing dissuaded him. NOTHING. We pointed him but who could stand that barking for a major much less a specialty. He retired. Got part time job as clown.

Suena [9 Images]

Suena is our newest Berner baby brought to us through the generousity of Rui Rosa and the thoughfulness of Sindi Leo. We here at Carolina are very grateful to have the chance to own such a beautiful bitch and to learn from people such as Rui Rosa and Sindi Leo and Kim and Keith Anderson. Suena is indeed as her name implies a dream come true.

Summer [4 Images]

This is a puppy I fell for literally. I had gone to Eileen Mason's to look at her litter of pups intent on getting my longed for tri color bitch. However, Summer had other ideas. This tenacious little pup followed me everywhere I went at Eileen's so whenever I turned around I fell over her. So the question wasn't what pup do you want, it was do you want the pup that wants you? So my little Sable Merle and I went home together and she was later to become the dam of Spotty and Madalyn, my Notorious children.
